What is a Hydraulic Elevator?

The elevator in which mechanical energy is obtained by means of liquids is called hydraulic elevator. Hydraulic systems are systems that are much more economical in terms of cost and occupy less space than other systems. Hydraulic systems are frequently preferred because they use less power and energy. We can find hydraulic systems in elevators, work machines, cranes, jacks, robots and almost all metal industry due to the ease of power transfer. Machines with hydraulic system; It has comfortable, vibration-free and easily controllable features.

The hydraulic elevator provides its power with the help of a pump. It is based on the principle that pressurized hydraulic oil drives the piston. There is a standard called EN 81-2 for the construction of hydraulic elevators. The EN 81-2 elevator standard defines the hydraulic elevator in terms of safe installation. The essence of the hydraulic system consists of an electric motor that transmits high power with the drive element. The most common configuration in hydraulic elevator systems is that in which the motor is fully immersed in the hydraulic oil in the tank. The system is thus directly connected to a pump.

Engine size in hydraulic elevators directly affects elevator performance. In hydraulic elevators, the motor selection and the ideal sizing of the system _cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ determines the energy cabin speed. One of the most striking features of hydraulic elevators is that they do not use any energy during vertical downward movement. In hydraulic elevator systems, it is possible to control the average travel speed without the need for an extra cost by increasing the downward movement speed and decreasing the vertical movement speed.

For this reason, the hydraulic elevator allows the energy to be used with a savings of 30% with the right motor selection.

Hydraulics is based on the principle of controlling power with liquid. The working principle of hydraulic systems is to obtain power by transmitting the liquid through structures such as pistons and cylinders. This structure is also available in hydraulic elevators. In this way, more power is provided with less power.  Hydraulic elevators are among the firsts of the elevator world. They can be built on the elevator tower without the need for a machine room. It is necessary to choose a suitable motor, taking into account the amount and dimensions of the load to be lifted by the elevator. In this way, a more efficient performance will be obtained by using less power. Hydraulic elevators do not need power when moving down. Downward movement is provided by the controlled use of the oil in the shaft.

Considerations in Hydraulic Lifts!

  • Elevators, elevators, hydraulic elevators and all vehicles included in the system should be checked and maintained by an authorized service.

  • Hydraulic pressure should be ideal and at the level recommended by the manufacturer.

  • The control panel, rigging equipment, surface bolts and pistons should be checked periodically.

  • Elevator fittings should be checked, damaged or cracked parts should be replaced.

  • The area where the elevator is located, tools, equipment, connection hoses, wires must be kept clean. Lifting or carrying capacity should not be exceeded in hydraulic lifts.

Hydraulic Elevator Advantages:

The area where the elevator machine room will be located can be determined easily.
Lift shaft lower and upper space spaces are used with less space.
A healthy structure is built by transmitting the loads of the elevator system to the floor in terms of the carrying load and building statics.
Less perceptible impact during take-offs and stops without using speed control.
Fine adjustments can be made between floors.
In the absence of power cuts and other energy sources, the system of coming to the floor can be solved economically.
A hydraulic lift is ideal for the purpose of using a silently running lift.

Hydraulic Lift Disadvantages:
Hydraulic elevator means low maintenance, repair and service. However, since the hydraulic oil used in the hydraulic elevator system depends on the pressure factor, the heater and the cooler system should be emphasized, since the hydraulic oil properties change with the heating of the oil during the elevator load carrying. There is approximately 200 liters of oil in a medium-sized hydraulic lift. Oil changes should be done ahead of time.
Due to the expensive pump and piston costs, the first installation is more expensive than other elevator types. Compared to electric elevators, it is not suitable in terms of energy consumption. A hydraulic elevator consumes more energy as it needs a larger motor power to carry the same loads when compared to an electric elevator in terms of speed and carrying capacity. For this reason, hydraulic elevators that consume 2 times more energy should not be preferred in multi-storey buildings.
